The other day I was thinking about how strange it is that, we(humans), wear another animals
skin for protection against something that the original animal, (A Cow) will never get a chance
to do. One such example, and the origins of the leather jackets, is flying. The bomber jacket
or leather jacket was used a lot in the early days of flight do to its durability and resilience to
the elements. So how is a cows skin, the best thing we could come up with to guard ourselves
against something they have never done? my guess is it was fate!
Leather is the perfect material for riding a motorcycle, Its cool looking, warm and most
importantly durable. Somehow fate knew that a lot of pilots would find themselves on
motorbikes and the Leather Jackets would be forever adopted by motorcycle types.
Now I mentioned “cool” and “durable” in a previous sentence. Two things that are very important
when you become a motorcycle guy or gal. First you want to look cool doing something that is
kinda dangerous and if shit goes wrong you want to be guarded from shit that will mess you up.
leather was intended to guard the animal be it human or cow from shit that is trying to mess it
up.
I just got the Icon 1000 Chapter Jacket, its cool and durable. I know this because it looks cool
to me and having since wrecked in it, found out the jacket is very durable. Funny thing about
my wreck, I was trying to jump a car with a vintage dirtbike combing the principals of flight and
motorcycling into one shit storm. Luckily I had the jacket on because I would have been pretty
beat up had I not. I walked away with a good story and a surprisingly small scuff on the shoulder
and arm of the jacket. Just want to finish by saying thanks to cows for giving us the best protection
that looks cool…. oh and Icon for bringing it all together.
