At least that’s the idea that got a crew of motoheads from disparate parts of the powersports industry thinking. 5 friends, 5 mid-90′s XR’s, some camping equipment, and an end goal at the Panama Canal. A roadtrip to end all roadtrips, and a project that ICON 1000 is proud to be involved with.

Luckily, for those that can’t get away yet, all 24 days of the trip will be documented in a variety of places. Follow the trip on Instagram under the hashtag #CR2013, the official website of the trip http://cr-2013.com/home, and this very blog.

So far, it’s been a wild ride, and they are not even halfway in.

See you on the road.

From their Native American roots, they were signs of passage, symbols of courage, and given to imbue strength and power upon the wearer. These pilots sat directly aft of those engines, directly in the line of fire if things went awry, and squeezed into a fragile cage of bent steel and fiberglass. All that lay ahead of them was the curvature of the earth and a eight cylinders ready to take them there. No big name sponsors covered the walls, no television coverage beamed their battles into living rooms, no mansions awaited their return back home, only the glory of being faster than everybody else was enough.

The blaring cries of emergency are all one hears in the beginning- sirens screeching their hopeless yells, police and firemen keeping back the hordes of the undead, worlds being turned upside down with every new call. These are the sounds of society coming apart at its tortured seams. You can even listen live right now. The players might be different, but the sounds are all the same. Police scanners are a window into the hole. From a world away, you hear everything from the mundane to the gut wrenching. Close your eyes and be taken to a time of crisis either in the past or the future. Change the situation and the characters as you please.
By all means, pull up a chair and take a listen. Chaos is how it begins, silence is how it ends.

The kids of the atomic shadow need something a bit more gutter to get their hobby passion spooled up. That’s where this genius one-off trike from Mutoidi comes in. We’ve long admitted our predilection for everything mid 80′s and Honda, but we’ve never come publicly clean about our love for trikes. Not trikes as in the Fire Lake chrome three-wheeler, but trikes of the ATC variety – with the 85-86 Honda ATC250R and Yamaha Tri-Z being the preferred embodiment. A Kawi Tecate or 350x will also do in a pinch. Of course you could always build your own as evidenced by the following pics. Rumor has it that there is a three-wheeler in ICON1000′s near future. We can only hope it will look as tits as the Mutoidi. (Thanks to Otto Nero for finding this gem).
