However, late night inspiration sessions by way of whiskey may have broken the builder block. For now, the Speedmaster may be destined to a life of straight-line fury. Nasty, nasty, speed is always the solution, and our new recruit may be the best candidate for a throwback to headier times.

Wild paint, irreverent attitudes, bad decisions, the realm of drag racing leaves a lot of possibility open for the build, but like all ICON 1000 bikes, this idea may be subject to change.

Testarossa strakes, monochromatic color schemes, and design choices that only made sense under certain influences – nothing reeks of halcyon excess quite like 1980s supercar bodykits. Koenig, Gemballa, Lorinser and more all tried their hands at the fiberglass arms race, but like hair metal and spandex pants, the 1990s brought an end to their reign.

However, there will always be room in the dream garage for a widebody Porsche with more artificial enhancements than a California zip code. What better way to cruise the ruins of humanity than with something so perfectly excessive?

At least that’s the idea that got a crew of motoheads from disparate parts of the powersports industry thinking. 5 friends, 5 mid-90′s XR’s, some camping equipment, and an end goal at the Panama Canal.  A roadtrip to end all roadtrips, and a project that ICON 1000 is proud to be involved with.

Control is a bit optimistic of a word though. These pilots sat directly aft of those engines, directly in the line of fire if things went awry, and squeezed into a fragile cage of bent steel and fiberglass. All that lay ahead of them was the curvature of the earth and a eight cylinders ready to take them there. No big name sponsors covered the walls, no television coverage beamed their battles into living rooms, no mansions awaited their return back home, only the glory of being faster than everybody else was enough.

The blaring cries of emergency are all one hears in the beginning- sirens screeching their hopeless yells, police and firemen keeping back the hordes of the undead, worlds being turned upside down with every new call.  These are the sounds of society coming apart at its tortured seams. You can even listen live right now. The players might be different, but the sounds are all the same. Police scanners are a window into the hole. From a world away, you hear everything from the mundane to the gut wrenching. Close your eyes and be taken to a time of crisis either in the past or the future. Change the situation and the characters as you please. By all means, pull up a chair and take a listen. Chaos is how it begins, silence is how it ends.
