New Found Hope
New Found Hope
1984 Honda VF1000F Interceptor
Somewhere between then and now lies the dream that is Icon.
As a youth, we gazed at the patriotic liveries of the Interceptor offerings. Their myriad of displacements beckoning both novice and expert alike. It was a short window for the VF in their original form. They were from a time when Honda took chances. When red, white, and blue dominated in both tech and style.
It was the dawn of the sportbike, and there would never be another. For forty years, we've chased the feeling that 1984 gave us—forty years of longing for the same adolescent desire. And in New Found Hope, we found it. Based on a 1984 VF1000F Interceptor, she is an homage to what was, with concerted adoption of what is, to showcase what could.
Much like Krom, the ICON team is well-versed in the riddle of steel.
The front end was borrowed wholely from a CBR900RR, which was itself a bright spark of genius on the sportbike timeline. We chose it for its beefy sliders and conventional flair. This is mated to a Ducati Diavel front wheel, necessitated by our OCD to match the spoke count of the rear wheel. The rear being a scavenged VFR400 unit sourced in the birthplace of this Honda. The rear swinger, also VFR400 componentry is mated to the original frame with a custom Nitron piggyback shock and rather robust steel adapter plate.
And Thus three became one
Nestled in the stock perimeter frame is a stock's 1000cc V-four. With spares for this motor long since dried up, it became an almost decade-long project to source sufficient replacement parts to get her operational. Three additional VF1000Fs donated their organs to ensure New Found Hope could once again rage the streets of America,
To Forge the path ahead
The distinctive mid-80s bodywork was a thing of beauty in the mid-80s and still is. The ICON garage team's job was to respect the original design intent and provide only subtle updates to the tail section to bring her into the modern age. Finally a livery was created to pay our respects to all the Interceptors that came before. The red, white, and blue that has forever changed our lives and set the path that would eventually become ICON.
